How to set up e-mail on your mobile device

Being mobile has become increasingly important, so it’s no surprise many professionals have access to their work e-mail on the go.  If you want access to your work e-mail from your mobile device or tablet, we can help.

To get started, just choose your device and follow the instructions.

Kindle Fire

iPhone/iPad

If this is the first email account you are setting up on the iPhone, you can get to the setup screen by tapping the Mail icon on the iPhone Home screen. If you have already setup an email account on your iPhone and want to add your LuxSci account, then follow these steps.

  1. From the Home screen choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts > Add Account.
  2. Choose your email account type, which will be "Other". Tap "Other".
  3. Choose "Add Mail Account".
  4. Enter the following information:
    • Your Name:
    • Your Email Address: (e-mail address)
    • Your Password:
    • Description of email account (this is a personal preference)
    • Click "Next"
  5. The iPhone will now attempt to look up your account information. This will fail. It will then prompt you for additional information.
  6. Select server type "IMAP". Your "Name", "Email Address", and "Description" should be carried over from the previous screen.
  7. In the "Incoming Mail Server" section enter the following information:
    • Host Name: "secure-email-8.luxsci.com"
    • User Name: (e-mail address)
    • Password: Your password
  8. In the "Outgoing Mail Server" section enter the following information:
    • Host Name: "secure-email-8.luxsci.com"
    • User Name:(e-mail address) (Required on our servers)
    • Password: Your password (Required on our servers)
  9. Click "Next"
  10. The iPhone will then attempt to "verify" your account settings.
  11. Click "Next"
  12. Click "Save"
  13. Click "Save" once more.
  14. Once setup is complete, it will bring you to the "Accounts" screen.
  15. To specify the IMAP folder path, go to "Settings > Mail > Accounts" and tap on this email account. Then click on "Advanced". At the bottom of the screen, enter "mail" for the "IMAP Path Prefix".

Follow the instructions below if you need/wish to change your SMTP server ports.

  1. From your iPhone's "Home" screen, tap on the "Settings" icon.
  2. Then tap on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
  3. Tap on the account that you want to edit the SMTP Port information in.
  4. Tap "Account Info".
  5. Tap the SMTP server listed in the "Outgoing Mail Server" section.
  6. The SMTP server for this account should be listed as the "Primary Server", tap there.
  7. At the bottom of the screen you should now see "Server Port". Click here and change to your desired SMTP port.
  8. Make sure the "Server Name" is "secure-email-8.luxsci.com".
  9. Use one of the following ports: 465 for SSL or 6465 for SSL and Anonymous SMTP.
  10. Make sure "Use SSL" is set to "On".

Samsung Galaxy

  1. First, tap the Email icon. If this is your first time adding an email account, it should bring you directly to the account setup screen. If so, skip ahead to step 5 in these instructions.
  2. Tap the Menu button on your phone (to the left of the physical Home button).
  3. Select "Settings" from the popup menu.
  4. Tap the plus (+) at the top right of the screen to add a new email account.
  5. Enter (e-mail address)as the username, and enter your password. Once you've filled out these fields, the "Manual setup" button at the bottom of the screen will become active.
  6. Tap the "Manual setup" button.
  7. Select "IMAP account".
  8. On this screen:
    • Make sure (e-mail address) is set as your Username. If the portion starting with "@" is missing, you will need to add this to the end.
    • Enter secure-email-8.luxsci.com as the IMAP server.
    • Set the "Security type" to "SSL".
    • Set the port to 993.
    • Enter mail as the "IMAP path prefix".
    • Tap "Next".
  9. Your device will then check your server settings.
  10. Once your Incoming settings have been confirmed, it will then ask for your Outgoing SMTP server settings. If it fails, please review your settings to make sure they were entered properly.
    • On this screen:

       

    • Enter "secure-email-8.luxsci.com"
    • Set the port to 465.
    • Select "SSL" as the "Security type".
    • Check the box next to "Require sign-in".
    • Enter (e-mail address) as your Username.
    • Enter your password in the Password field.
    • Tap "Next".
  11. The device will then check your Outgoing SMTP server settings. If it fails, please review your settings to make sure they were entered properly. If the test is successful, the screen that follows provides several options that can be set according to your personal preference. Some options include:
    • The frequency in which to check for new email
    • Whether to download aattachments when connected to WIFI (not available on the S3)
    • The default maximum size of email to download (not available on the S4)
    • Notifications upon receipt of a new email
  12. Tap "Next" to go to the final screen.
    • You'll see a confirmation your account has been successfully setup.
    • You can now decide upon a name for your account on your device. This name will only be seen on this device and not by others. Enter the account name in the "Give this account a name" section. This is optional.
    • You can also decide upon a display name for your outgoing emails in the "Your name (displayed on outgoing messages)." section.
    • Tap "Done".

Your email accounts setup is now complete on your device.

Other Android Devices

Follow these steps to setup email in the K-9 email app.

  1. Tap the "K-9" icon.
  2. The first screen is information about the K-9 email app. Click "Next".
    • On this screen:
    • Enter (e-mail address) in the "Email Address" field
    • Enter your password in the "Password" field.
    • Tap "Manual setup".
  3. Choose "IMAP".
    • On this screen:
    • Enter "(e-mail address)" in the "Username" field.
    • Enter your password in the "Password" field, if it is not already filled in.
    • Enter "secure-email-8.luxsci.com" in the "IMAP server" field.
    • Leave the "Security type" as "SSL(Always)".
    • Leave "Authentication type" as "PLAIN".
    • Leave the "Port" as "993".
    • Enter "mail", without the quotes, as the "IMAP path prefix".
    • Choose what networks (via the checkboxes) that you want compression to run on.
    • Tap "Next".
  4. Once your Incoming settings have been confirmed, it will then ask for your Outgoing SMTP server settings. If it fails, please review your settings to make sure they were entered properly.
    • On this screen:
    • Enter "secure-email-8.luxsci.com" in the "SMTP server" field.
    • Leave "Security type" as "SSL(Always)".
    • For "Port" enter 465.
    • Check the box next to "Require sign-in".
    • Leave "Authentication type" as "PLAIN".
    • In the "Username" field, make sure your username is correctly entered as "(e-mail address)".
    • In the "Password" field, your password should have been carried over from previous screens.
    • Tap "Next".
  5. Your SMTP settings will now be confirmed. If it fails, please review your settings to make sure they were entered properly.
  6. On this screen please choose if you would like PUSH email enabled for this account, the # of messages to view, and what notifications you would like.
  7. Tap "Next".
  8. You will see a screen that confirms your account has been setup.
    • On this screen:
    • Enter a display name for the account for when it is viewed on your device.
    • Enter your name, as you would like it displayed on outgoing emails.
    • Tap "Done".

Kindle Fire

  1. On Home Screen choose "Apps".
  2. At top of screen choose on "Device".
  3. From the list choose "Email".
  4. Tap "Start" . If you already have an email account setup then tap the "Menu" button at the bottom of your screen, then tap "Accounts", then tap the menu icon again and choose "Add Account".
  5. From the list of email providers choose "Other".
  6. On the "Sign-In" screen enter "(e-mail address)" as your username and also enter your password for your LuxSci account.
  7. Tap "Next".
  8. Choose IMAP from the list.
  9. On this screen enter the following:
    • "(e-mail address)" as your Username
    • Your Password
    • "secure-email-8.luxsci.com" as your Incoming IMAP server
    • Security Type, choose "SSL(Always)"
    • Authentication Type, choose "plain"
    • Port should be "993"
    • Enter "mail" without the quotes as the "IMAP path prefix"
    • Tap "Next"
  10. The Kindle Fire will then check your Incoming Server settings and if they are verified it will then prompt you for your Outgoing server settings.
  11. In the Outgoing Server sections enter the following:
    • Enter "secure-email-8.luxsci.com" for the Outgoing SMTP server
    • Security type, choose "SSL(Always)"
    • For "Port" enter "465"
    • Check the box for "Require Sign-in"
    • Authentication type leave at "Automatic"
    • Enter "(e-mail address)" as your Username
    • Enter your password
    • Tap "Next"
  12. The Kindle Fire will then check your Outgoing Server setting and if they are correct will prompt you for the "Folder Polling Frequency". This is up to your personal preferences.
  13. Type your Name as you want it displayed on outgoing email messages.
  14. Give the account a name (optional).
  15. Then tap the "View your Inbox" icon.
