Why an Empty Blog Does Nothing for Your Business

Posted on: August 11 2014 | Posted in: Client Help

For 99.9 percent of the business world, the motivation behind starting a blog is because blogs are great for spreading news, tracking social followers, building your credibility and enhancing your search engine visibility.

Unfortunately, an empty blog without any posts won't help you accomplish any of these things. In fact, having a blog without new content is worse than not having one at all.

That might seem like an overstatement, but it's not. An empty blog – or one that hasn't been updated in years – tells your customers that your business is either behind the times, is no longer in busienss, or cannot handle the work. That's not really the kind of impression you want to achieve.

Old blog posts tend to reference out-of-date statistics, pricing and old dates. Most importantly, empty or old blogs send a message to Google and the other search engines that your website isn't reliable or even a source of current data.   This could affect your ranking because it becomes less relevant.

It doesn't take a lot of time, money, or even creativity to build up your blog. So, if you're going to have one, stock it with fresh content regularly. Otherwise, it's best not to have a blog.
