It’s a well-known fact that New Orleans tourism dips in the summer months. For some reason, when it’s hot enough to fry an egg on the French Quarter sidewalk, visitors tend to stay out of the Crescent City.

This can pose a problem for many hospitality providers: namely, hotels and tour operators, who depend on a steady influx of out-of-towners to fill rooms and book tours. If this sounds like you, don’t despair, and certainly don’t waste the dog days of summer resting on your laurels. Summer is the perfect time to do some housekeeping, both online and off, that will greatly benefit your company when the fall busy season rolls around.

Apart from offering summer specials, what can you do during this slump in business? It’s a great chance to fill in any training gaps your staff may have. Holding classes and staff meetings to review and refresh best practices is a great use of the slow season, because it ensures that all of your employees will be at the top of their game when rooms book up and tours fill to the brim.

The summer also provides an excellent opportunity to ramp up your social media strategy. Finally, another thing you can do this summer is go through your website with a fine-toothed comb. Don’t just search for errors or outdated information (though that’s important too)–check for places where you may be able to add more keyword-rich content about the services you offer.
